5 Best Moments in "Wildfire" by Ilona Andrews

Wildfire by Ilona Andrews

I am a huge fan of Ilona Andrews, the husband and wife writing duo. They have written some of the best urban fantasy series out there, including the Kate Daniels series and The Edge series. Both of which I devoured.

Their most recent published work is Wildfire, the 3rd book and final instalment in the Hidden Legacy series. In my humble opinion, it is their best series yet (Sorry, Kate and Curran!). It's been weeks since the book came out, but I'm still fangirling over it. Let me share my most memorable scenes from Wildfire

Top 5 Moments in Ilona Andrew's Wildfire

#5 Bug (in cahoots with Nguyen and Rivera) giving relationship advice to Nevada

This is scene happens the morning after Rogan and Nevada spend the night together, and are just getting ready to attack House Harcourt. Nevada is powering up using a magic circle while Bug (with his laptop open) and Napoleon watch.

Bug starts doling out relationship advice about the benefits of communication, etc. It was hilarious, especially since we later find out that Nguyen and Rivera are in on it. Like a bunch of gossiping old wives! Even though House Rogan runs a military-esque operation, it's nice to see that Rogan's people care about him and his love life.

#4 Rogan proposes to Nevada and have hot sex

In general, Rogan and Nevada have had hot sex scenes throughout the series. But this proposal sex scene takes the cake. What I love about it is how both of them are literally and metaphorically bare to each other.

Rogan is not a knight in shining armour who always makes the honourable/moral choice. He will do anything to protect his people and those he loves—even if it means playing dirty. And, Nevada? Her moral compass always pointed north. But with everything that's happened to her and her family, she's slowly realizing that she's got a dark side too. In this scene, they see one another—good and bad side—and accept each other for who they are. It's beautiful.

#3 Nevada and Leon take on House Madero

Leon is one of my favourite characters in the series. He's always wanted to be special and have powers like his brother Bern or his cousins Nevada, Catalina, and Arabella. At this point in the story, he discovers that he's one hell of a sharp shooter. When he and Nevada are attacked by House Madero goons in the hospital garage, Leon shoots 8 people in rapid succession within 2 seconds. Not to mention that they were over 50 meters apart!

What made the scene even more badass was Nevada's call with the Head of House, Peter Madero. He's one cantankerous old man and she handles him so well. I totally want to be Nevada Baylor, guys.

#2 Nevada breaks Vincent Harcourt's Hex

Another badass scene. Here, we see how powerful Nevada is. It happens just after they capture Vincent Harcourt in an insane car chase action scene. Nevada needs to break a hex that was put in Vincent's mind by her evil grandmother, Victoria Tremaine.

Everyone's present, for some reason. The whole Baylor family is there, even Victoria Tremaine. House Harrison, the family of animal mages, are there too. Rogan, his people and Rynda Sherwood, of course. And, Garen Shaffer of House Shaffer, a truthseeker family, is also present. What an audience!

Nevada doesn't disappoint. Untrained she may be, but she is powerful. She quickly figures out how to break the hex by creating a carnation flower construct thingy that protects Vincent's mind from harm. After her demonstration, Garen Shaffer high tails it out of there. The others were either proud, scared, or nonchalant. Either way, Nevada proved she was a force to be reckoned with.

#1 The Baylor Family Trials to become a House

I loved everything about this epilogue. The Baylor family take their Trials so they can finally establish themselves as a House. Nevada declares her engagement to Rogan in front of the most powerful families in Texas. Rogan's reaction was so satisfying.

And the scene just kept getting better and better. Nevada pulls the truth out of a couple of people- which we expected. Then, Catalina- her siren sister- goes toe to toe with the dashing Alessandro Sagredo, an Antistasi Prime from Italy (They definitely need their own book). And then, Arabella tries to solve math equations in her Beast of Cologne form. I could not stop laughing! It was such a riot!

Final Thoughts

The Hidden Legacy series is definitely one of the best urban fantasy books I've ever read. It's got romance, action, and humour. I couldn't ask more from a series.
